Singapore retains gold

GLASGOW: Singapore retained the men’s gold, defeating India 3-1 in the final of the 18th Commonwealth table tennis championships here on Friday.

In the women’s section, Singapore bagged the gold, blanking Malaysia 3-0.

The men’s and women’s singles qualification matches started on Saturday.

The results (final):

Men: Singapore bt India 3-1 (Gao Ning bt Sourav Chakroborty 11-6, 11-6, 11-9; Yang Zi lost to Sharath Kamal 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 8-11; Cai Xiao Li bt Subhajit Saha 2-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-8; Gao Ning bt Sharath Kamal 11-8, 11-9, 11-2).
