Extend tax exemption for captive power generation, says CII
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has urged the State Government to extend electricity tax exemption on industries with captive power plants. The earlier order granting exemption expired on March 31 this year.
In a statement issued here on Friday, C.K.Ranganathan, chairman, CII-Tamil Nadu State Council, said that with the power situation continuing to be grim, there was a “clear need for industry to generate power using all captive sources available.”
He said that the earlier tax exemption by the government had encouraged industry to use available captive units. The exemption of generation tax would make it more viable for the industry to generate its own power.
