Rallies by Tamils Protection Movement

TIRUNELVELI: Condemning the killing of Sri Lankan Tamils by the armed forces of the island nation, members of Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement took out a rally in Tirunelveli Town on Thursday.

Led by Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Tirunelveli city district secretary K.M.A. Nizam, the processionists marched from Tirunelveli Town Arch to Vaagaiyadi Corner. They raised slogans demanding that the State and Central Governments ensure peaceful life for Lankan Tamils.

Communist Party of India district secretary R. Shanmugavel and State deputy general secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi A. Mohanraj were among those who participated in the rally.

Tuticorin

Over 250 cadres of the Movement took out a rally here.It was led by Tamizh Neyan, town secretary of Thamizhar Desiya Iyakkam. Others who took part in the rally were Nazareth Durai, State assistant general secretary, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Rajendran and Ayallusamy, former MLAs of CPI, and P. Mohanraj, district secretary, CPI.

The rally commenced from Balavinayagar Kovil Street and concluded in front of Corporation office. They staged a demonstration and stressed the need for United Nations’ intervention to put pressure on Sri Lankan government to broker a peace deal for Tamils.
