New Delhi: India could not win a single medal but finished fourth in women’s and fifth in men’s section in the Asian senior weightlifting championship which ended on Saturday at Taldykorgan in Kazakhstan. India, which won a silver and two bronze in Japan last year, sent 15 lifters — seven women and eight men — but returned without a single medal. The best effort by an Indian in the championship was by Sonia Chanu who finished fourth in women’s 48kg with a total lift of 167kg. Geeta Rani, who won medals in the 2004 and 2005 editions of the event, finished sixth in above-75kg category. Iran won the men’s title with 583 points, earning 15 medals (six gold, six silver and three bronze), followed by Kazakhstan (555 points), while China stood third. — PTI
