TIRUNELVELI: As usual and as anticipated, girls have outsmarted the boys in the just declared Plus Two results even as the district’s pass percentage suffered a marginal dip of 4 per cent from the previous year’s 91.58 per cent to 86.84 per cent this year. Like the State toppers B. Ramesh of Bharat Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ilanji and S. Jassima Sulaiha of Amali Higher Secondary School, Vickramasingapuram, district third rank-holder E. Prarthana Antoline Abhiya of Rose Mary Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, who has scored 1,179, also wants to become a doctor. “I want to serve the poorest of the poor after becoming an oncologist”. Though Prarthana expected a State rank, the marks she has shockingly lost in Tamil and English dashed her hopes. “So I’ve decided to apply for re-totalling in Tamil and English since I’d done those papers well,” Ms. Prarthana said. Total number of students appeared in Tirunelveli district: Boys – 12,608; Girls – 15, 341; Total – 27, 949. Passed – Boys – 10,559 (83.74 per cent); Girls – 13, 714 (89. 39 per cent); Total – 24, 273 (86.84 per cent). Total number of students appeared in Tirunelveli Educational District: Boys – 4,858; Girls – 5,792; Total – 10,650. Passed – Boys – 4,067 (83 per cent); Girls – 5,166 (89 per cent); Total – 9,233 (86.70 per cent). Total number of students appeared in Cheranmahadevi Educational District: Boys – 3,758; Girls – 4,956; Total – 8,714. Passed – Boys – 3,131 (83.30 per cent); Girls – 4,405(88 per cent); Total – 7,536 (86.40 per cent). Total number of students appeared in Tenkasi Educational District: Boys – 3,992; Girls – 4,593; Total – 8,585. Passed – Boys – 3,361 (84 per cent); Girls – 4,143 (90 per cent); Total – 7,504 (87.40 per cent). Toppers of Tirunelveli District: I. B.
