Margao: Haryana came from behind to hold Punjab to a 1-1 draw and enter the semifinals of the under-21 National football championship for the M. Dutta Ray Trophy, at the Nehru stadium here on Monday. Haryana, which needed a draw to enter the semifinals, played defensive and as a result the match was confined to midfield for major part. Punjab, which has already made the semifinals, took the lead in the 68th minute. Gurjot Singh sent a low cross from the right which was partially cleared by goalkeeper Pardeep Kumar. Though Atinder Mani and Baljit Singh fumbled, substitute Pawan Kumar darted in to slam the ball into the net. Haryana equalised eight minutes later when Shyam Sunder headed in off a flag-kick taken from the right. Haryana, which finished second behind Punjab with five points, took the final semifinal slot. Haryana will meet Mizoram on May 13 while Punjab, which topped Group II with seven points, faces Bengal the following day. — PTI
