Montanes triumphs

ESTORIL: Alberto Montanes denied James Blake a first-ever title on European clay Sunday as he preyed upon the American’s fitness to claim a 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-0 title victory at the Estoril Open.

Montanes, the No.36 with a single career title on clay, proved to be the stronger player in the final set as Blake ran out of puff after concluding a rain-hit semifinal win over Nikolay Davydenko only hours earlier.

Berdych is champ

Fourth-seed Tomas Berdych picked up his first title of 2009 when he beat Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) in Sunday’s BMW Open final in Munich.

Djokovic wins at home

World No.3 Novak Djokovic won the inaugural Serbia Open claycourt tournament beating Polish lucky loser Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 7-6(0 in Belgrade on Sunday.

It was the top-seeded Serbian’s second tournament triumph of the year after his victory at the Dubai Open at the end of February and comes just two weeks before Roland Garros. The 2008 Australian Open champion was playing in his fourth consecutive tournament final after runner-up showings at Miami, Monte-Carlo and Rome.
