NEW DELHI: The Indian boys lost to the top-seeded Thailand and the eighth-seeded China in the positional matches and ended up eighth in the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 boys’ tennis tournament in Kuching, Malaysia. The top four teams — Australia, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Uzbekistan — qualified for the World Group finals. Meanwhile, the Indian girls started their campaign with a 0-3 loss to the sixth-seeded Thailand at the same venue on Monday. The results: Boys (positional matches): Thailand bt India 3-0 (Parl Rungseeborirak bt Vishal Passi 7-5, 6-3; Wishaya Thongcharoenchaikul bt Abhishek Alla 6-1, 6-0; Krittin Koaykul & Parl Rungseeborirak bt Digvijay Singh Naruka & Vishal Passi 6-0, 6-4). China bt India 2-1 (Xu Shuai bt Digvijay 6-4, 6-4; Chen Xin bt Abhishek 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-1; Wang Ao Xiong & Xu Shuai lost to Digvijay & Vishal 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(6)). Final placings: 1. Australia, 2. Chinese Taipei, 3. Japan, 4. Uzbekistan, 5. Korea, 6. Thailand, 7. China, 8. India, 9. Hong Kong, 10. New Zealand, 11. Indonesia, 12. Philippines, 13. Singapore, 14. Myanmar, 15. Malaysia and 16.
