Colts CC lifts K-Lite Rolling Trophy

Udhagamandalam: Medium pacer S. John Samuel picked five for 21 as Colts Cricket Club defeated Gudalur Cricket Club by eight wickets and emerged champion of the TNCA-NDCA first division league for the K-Lite Rolling Trophy at the HPF grounds here on Sunday.

After bundling out the opposition for a paltry 78, Colts scored the required runs in shade less than 13 overs.

The scores: First division (final): Gudalur 78 (M. Safeek 31, S. John Samuel five for 21) lost to Colts CC 80 for two in 12.5 overs (S. Sandeep 41).

Second division (Murali Babu Rolling Trophy): Pandalur CC 58 (M. Ubaid three for 23, J. Vijayan three for 20) lost to Rising Stars 60 for two in 9.3 overs.

Third division (Fountain India Rolling Trophy): Galaxy CC 120 (D. Manjunath 31, S. Antony Raj four for 41) lost to Zeal Guys CC 124 for nine in 29 overs (K. Abbas three for 32, S.M. Tanzeer three for 38); Golden Eagle Brothers CC 105 lost to Yellanhalli XI 106 for five in 18.3 overs (V. Yobu four for 34).

Srinivasan prevails

Dr. K.V. Srinivasan, with 37 points, edged out S. Bharat Ram (36 pts) for the Shri K. Rajagopal Trophy in the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club golf tournament played on a Stableford format (0-16) at the OGC course on Sunday.

R. Gopinath, who emerged the gross winner in the Mathew Philip Memorial Trophy played on an Against Bogey format (0-16), took the PRD Trophy for the longest drive.

The results: Shri K. Rajagopal Trophy (Stableford) 0-16: 1. Dr. K.V. Srinivasan 37 pts; 2. S. Bharat Ram 36. Gross: 1. Pavan Kaula 27 pts. 17-30: 1. K. Mantrachalam 40 pts; 2. R. Vijayakumhar 39.

Holdsworth Memorial Trophy (Stableford) 0-16: 1. P.R. Ramakrishnan 37 pts; 2. Nitin Suresh 36. 17-30: 1. Rohit Raj 38 pts; 2. V. Jayaraman.

Thangamani scalps five

At Namakkal, a five-wicket haul by Thangamani (five for 20) enabled Ranjit Cricket Club ‘A’ score a four-wicket win over Power Star Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-DCAN first division league at the ICL colony grounds on Sunday.

The scores: Power Star CC (Namakkal) 108 in 28.4 overs (R.S. Karthikeyan 31, Thangamani five for 20) lost to Ranjit CC ‘A’ (Tiruchengodu) 110 for six (Thangamani 34, N. Suresh four for 31).

Sellamuthu on song

Left-arm medium pacer M. Sellamuthu picked six for 33 in Rothmans Cricket Club’s six-wicket win over Kumar Memorial Cricket Club in the TNCA-SDCA first division league at the Neelambal grounds on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Kumar Memorial CC 97 in 45 overs (M. Sellamuthu six for 33, R. Selvam three for 24) lost to Rothmans CC 98 for four in 21.4 overs; Students Seniors CC 211 for seven in 45 overs (V. Saravanan 55, A. Kannan three for 43) bt Vampire CC 181 in 45 overs (R. Devendran 40, G. Anandh three for 26).

AITA Talent Series

In Coimbatore, the district tennis association will conduct the AITA Talent Series for the under-14 and 16 age group children and the CDTA State ranking men’s singles and doubles tournaments at the Sastri Maidan CDTA courts from May 23 to 30. Umpires’ exam

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has decided to hold the State panel umpires’ examination during the first week of June.

Candidates above 21 and below 40 years of age as on April 1, 2009 are eligible to appear for the examination, which will be held for three hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Application must reach the Coimbatore District Cricket Association office, C/o. Sri Jaganatha Ginning & Oil Mills, 1-Avarampalayam Road, New Sidhapudur, Coimbatore-641 044 (ph: 2242405) on or before May 16.

Rifle camp

To give the students a feel of rifle and pistol shooting, the Coimbatore Rifle Club will conduct a summer coaching camp at the Club’s shooting range in PRS grounds from May 17 to 24 between 7 a.m. to 12 noon. For details, contact 6539398 between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
