VELLORE: An educational compact disc (CD) on ‘Trauma Prevention & Road Safety Tips’ prepared by actor Sneha, trauma care evangelist for the Trauma Care and Road Safety (T-CARS) Trust was handed over by Franco Benedict, general secretary, T-CARS Trust, Vellore to G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University and Pro-Chancellors Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam at a function held at the VIT campus here on Friday. Dr. Franco Benedict said that VIT University was chosen for receiving the first free copy of the CD since it was a leading educational institution with a global outlook and a student strength of about 16,000 students. With a deep sense of social responsibility, the institution has already made wearing of helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders entering the VIT campus, and the wearing of seat belts compulsory for institutional bus and van drivers. Free of costHe said that a set of seven CDs would be distributed free of cost to all the major colleges and schools in Vellore district, to enable them to disseminate the information on trauma prevention and road safety to the students. The CD would be useful to the educational institutions in conducting trauma awareness demonstration programmes. It would also be placed online in the websites of the colleges and schools so that they could be viewed by the students, who would get greater awareness of the issue.
