‘I am among the top wicketkeepers in India’

Kimberley: He considers himself among the top five stumpers in India but Rajasthan Royals’ surprise package Naman Ojha concedes that he struggles to keep against spinners.

“I don’t keep well to spinners. I spend so much time on my batting and open the batting that I haven’t worked on it.

“Thankfully, now my coach Sanjay Jagdale and Narendra Hirwani are telling me how to keep to spinners,” Ojha told the IPL’s official website.

“(But) I am in the top five or six (in India),” he added.

Not just keeping, Ojha, who has scored two fifties in the three IPL matches he has played so far, finds batting against spinners equally tough.

“I have been speaking a lot to senior players who play the domestic circuit. They say I need to play the spinners from the rough with a bit more authority”.

Ojha started his career alongside Mahendra Singh Dhoni and rues that while Dhoni moved on to become Indian skipper, he continues to languish in the domestic circuit.

“I started my cricket at the same time with Dhoni but today he has gone so far ahead.

“I am still just playing domestic cricket,” he said. — PTI
