Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday denied he was in talks with any party beyond the constituents of his own National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he claimed would be able to get a majority on its own in the Lok Sabha elections. “How many times do you expect me to deny that I am in talks with the Left? I have done it more than half a dozen times already. I have neither been approached nor have I reached out to them. I am in touch only with the NDA partners,” he told reporters before leaving to address an election rally of the alliance at Ludhiana.
“The JD(U) and the NCP have a significant role to play after the elections,” Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat had said, suggesting Mr. Kumar to break ties with the BJP. Asked whether Mr. Kumar would risk his government in Bihar where he was dependent on the BJP for survival, Mr. Karat said, “Nitish Kumar has carved out a very strong position in Bihar and independently today he is a major force, so he can strike out. I think... Take the plunge like Naveen Patnaik of the BJD has done.” — PTI
