ICC to discuss day-night Tests

LONDON: Cricket’s governing body will consider introducing day-night test matches and review a system that allows players to call for television reviews, when it meets this week in London.

The ICC will also discuss steps to improve over rates in international cricket, regulations governing bad light and whether there should be a maximum weight of bats, the ICC said in statement.

While day-night matches were introduced in one-day international cricket three decades ago, Tests have always been played in daylight.

The committee will also discuss steps to boost one-day international cricket amid the growing popularity of Twenty20 format, the statement said.

The results of the recent trial of the television review system will form a key part of the ICC agenda, it said.

The meeting will be held in London on Monday and Tuesday.

The trial, which saw players given the opportunity to ask for umpires’ decisions to be reviewed by the TV umpire, took place in four Test series during the past nine months. — AP
