KOLKATA: The Indian men’s recurve team — comprising Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee and Mangal Singh Champia — defeated Russian Federation 220-218 to win the team gold in the archery World Cup stage II at Porec, Croatia, on Saturday. Later Jayanta Talukdar won the individual recurve gold medal outshining Athens Olympic gold medallist Marco Galiazzo of Italy at 110-108.The win gave Talukdar a double gold medal. This was the second team gold medal for India in the ongoing series. The first one was won at the stage I meet at Santo Domingo last month. Italy won the bronze medal beating China 221-219. The Indian women’s recurve team was not as lucky as it went down to Ukraine 197-212. China won the gold medal defeating France 214-200. Talukdar once again demonstrated his supremacy over the Italian by winning his third meeting, all at Porec. Having won the first in 2006 and the second at 2008, the Indian led the first two ends at 55-52. The third end of three arrows saw the Indian losing two points as the score stood at 82-81. With a thin one-point lead going into the final end of three arrows, the Italian shot an eight to surrender the match to Talukdar who won 110-108. – Special Correspondent
