TIRUCHI: A large number of devotees offered their worship to Namperumal on the occasion of “Gajendra Moksham” rituals performed on Saturday. The festival, falling on the “Chithra Pournami” day every year, signifies the Lord blessing Gajendran, an elephant, whose one of the feet was caught by the jaws of a crocodile. Legend has it that the elephant, which instantly sought the assistance of Lord, was liberated. Signifying the episode, Namperumal was brought to the banks of the Cauvery at Ammamandapm where the verses relating to the liberation, (Moksham) were recited in the presence of an elephant also brought to the venue.
