Good news: Srivan Sadakopa Sri Narayana Yateendra Mahadesikan Swamigal, senior Jeer of Ahobila Mutt, left, and Azhagiya Singar Sri Ranganatha Yateendra Mahadesikan, junior Jeer, right, at a press conference in Srirangam on Saturday.

TIRUCHI: Sri Ahobila Mutt will start an Arts and Science College in Madurantakam and the construction of the college is under way, the Senior Jeer of the mutt, Srivan Sadakopa Sri Narayana Yateendra Mahadesikan Swamigal, said.

Addressing media persons at Sri Dasavathara Sannidhhi in Srirangam on Saturday, the Senior Jeer said that the mutt was already running a Samskrit College at Madurantakam and in fact he was one of former students of the college.

The mutt premises at Madurantakam had a sprawling space which was now being utilised for starting an Arts and Science College.

The Senior Jeer said that the mutt, founded about 660 years ago, had a religious legend.

He said that he had nominated the 46th pontiff for the mutt and the new Jeer had been conferred the title Azhagiya Singar Sri Ranganatha Yateendra Mahadesikan. The Junior Jeer would accompany him in all his camps and ensure prompt performance of the religious rituals.

The Junior Jeer, who was also present, said that he considered a ‘great blessing’ to have been nominated as the 46th pontiff.

Both the Senior and the Junior Jeers said that the mutt aimed at the universal welfare. Both would carry on the goals of the mutt prescribed by the predecessor Jeers.
