Murder attempt: four persons arrested

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The rural police, on Saturday, arrested four persons in connection with the attempted murder of a Gulf returnee, Sudhakar, at Chirayankeezh last week.

The police alleged that they were hired gangsters who took money for settling underworld scores, personal feuds and business rivalries.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attingal, K.E. Baiju, said the accused were Anil Kumar, alias “Chimney” Anil; Manikantan; “Kali” Unni; and Arun. He said they were suspected to be responsible for several mafia hits in the district recently.

The armed assailants, who arrived in a van, cut down Sudhakar in front of his house. The suspects told the police that an absconding gang leader, Attingal Ayyappan, had ordered the attack.

They told the police that Ayyappan had given the contract to kill Sudhakar through one Aju. One Aji, claiming to be acting on behalf of Ayyappan, plotted the operation. They said Sudhakar was attacked for not paying Ayyappan the money he demanded in Dubai.
