Awareness campaign for travelling public

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A week-long campaign organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway sought to enlighten the travelling public about the danger posed by criminal gangs who resort to doping travellers before stealing valuables in their possession.

During the campaign, railway security officials highlighted the modus operandi of the criminals and the steps taken to prevent and detect crime on trains. Specially designed pamphlets were distributed to passengers and posters and stickers were pasted on railway premises and trains. Banners and flex boards were installed at important stations and Scouts, Guides, NCC and NSS volunteers, coolie porters and taxi and auto drivers were drafted into the awareness campaign.

Awareness programmes were organised at bus stands, work sites and in schools and colleges. Street plays and puppet shows were also staged to drive home the message.

K.K. Ashraf, Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, inaugurated the valedictory session at the Thiruvananthapuram Central station on Friday evening. A magic performance and puppet show were also organised in connection with the event.
