Rest of the World in lead

NEW DELHI: Headed by World champion Viswanathan Anand, favourite Rest of the World took a commanding 10-6 lead over Azerbaijan after four rounds of their rapid match for the President’s Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday.

After the host took a 2.5-1.5 lead at the end of the first round, the Rest asserted its superiority in the following three rounds.

On Wednesday, Anand was formally presented the Chess Oscar for the fifth time, precisely a year after it was announced. Anand received the Oscar, for the year 2007, from the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

Hari starts with a draw

Meanwhile, in the 39th Bosna chess tournament in Sarajevo, P. Hari Krishna opened his campaign with a 41-move draw against Borki Predojevic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ukraine’s Pavel Eljanov defeated China’s Wang Hao to emerge as the only winner of the opening day in this six-player double round-robin event.
