Australia too good for India

NEW DELHI: The seventh-seeded India lost to the third-seeded Australia 3-0, winning a mere 12 games in three matches, in the quarterfinals of the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 tennis tournament at Kuching, Malaysia, on Friday.

India will meet the top-seeded Thailand in the positional match to determine the fifth to eighth places. The second-seeded Korea also failed to make the semifinals.

The other teams to join Australia in the semifinals, and thus qualify for the World Group finals, were Uzbekistan, Japan and Chinese Taipei.

The results (quarterfinals): Australia beat India 3-0 (Nicholas Kyrgios bt Vishal Passi 6-2, 6-3; Jay Andrijic bt Abhishek Alla 6-1, 6-2; Nicholas Kyrgios and Daniel Talens bt Digivjay Singh Naruka and Vishal Passi 6-2, 6-2).
