Hamid Ansari to attend Zuma’s inauguration

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Vice-President Hamid Ansari will represent India at the inauguration of South Africa’s new President Jacob Zuma.

A former career diplomat, Mr. Ansari, who will leave on Friday on a three-day visit, has scheduled informal bilaterals on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony. He is accompanied by Nalin Surie, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and other senior officials.

Mr. Ansari’s visit “underlines the historic bond between the two countries and India’s determination to add depth to the relations,” Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash told journalists here.
