Export of wheat and wheat products allowed

Gargi Parsai

NEW DELHI: The Centre has decided to lift the ban on export of wheat and wheat products on private account from May 15. The Committee of Secretaries , which met earlier this week, decided to allow private traders to export wheat and wheat products but put a cap on the quantity to be exported at 20 lakh tonnes. The traders will have to buy the commodity from the market and can export between May 15, 2009 and March 2010. The decision was in line with an approval given by the Empowered Group of Ministers on March 5.
