Bangalore: Mahendra Reddy (29) and Satyajit Singh Chauhan (30), who travelled from Louis Ville, Kentucky, and New York, respectively, via Frankfurt, and landed in Bangalore on the night of May 6, have been quarantined after being screened for flu symptoms at the Bengaluru International Airport. They have been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) and their blood samples and throat swabs have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi and Pune on Thursday afternoon. The reports will be available in 48 hours. Health Commissioner P.N. Sreenivasachari told The Hindu that both the passengers had been isolated and were being treated for common flu. Top official sources told The Hindu that Mr. Reddy, a software engineer and a native of Ramchandranagar in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, had left Hyderabad three months ago for Louis Ville, Kentucky. “He developed cold and body ache on the morning of May 1. On May 5, he boarded the flight to Bangalore and landed here on May 6,” sources said. Mr. Chauhan, a mechanical engineer, who is from Hyderabad, has been in the U.S. for the last seven years. “He developed a runny nose on the flight and was given some analgesics,” sources said.
