All-out operation: Gilani

Nirupama Subramanian

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that the Pakistani Army had been called out for an all-out operation against militant extremists in the north-west frontier regions, and asked the nation to stand behind its soldiers.

“The time has come when the entire nation should side with the government and the armed forces against those who want to make the entire country hostage and darken our future at gunpoint,” Mr. Gilani said.

His address to the nation appeared to be a decisive sign that the Army was on the verge of a massive offensive to oust Taliban militants from parts of the North West Frontier Province and re-establish government control.
