Former Ranji skipper Rajesh found dead

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Kerala Ranji Trophy skipper, S. Rajesh, was found dead at his residence in the Jawahar Nagar housing colony here on Thursday morning. He was 49.

The Police, after having conducted an initial inquest, removed the body of the player to the Medical College Hospital mortuary. The exact reason of the death will be known only after the post-mortem examination to be held on Friday.

Rajesh, who represented Kerala in 27 Ranji Trophy matches between 1981 and 1989, captained the team in the 1988-89 season before an injury forced to him to an early retirement.

A popular cricketer, Rajesh was one of the three Subramaniam brothers who earned the Kerala cap in the 1980s. His elder brother Ramesh was also the State captain and his younger brother Santosh played alongside them.

The Kerala Cricket Association expressed its grief over the passing away of the Rajesh, who was employed with the Reserve Bank of India.

His body will be kept at the KCA headquarters here between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday for the fans and the cricketing fraternity to pay their last respects.
