PMC chosen for National Games projects

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mumbai-based CES-SPA Joint Ventures has been chosen as the project management consultant (PMC) for the work relating to the renovation of the existing stadiums which have been identified as venues of the 35th National Games to be held in the State next year.

The decision to award the contract to the Mumbai-based company was taken by the executive committee of the National Games Secretariat which met here late on Wednesday night with the Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar in the chair.

The meeting, however, deferred the awarding of PMC relating to the construction of the Games Village and the new stadium projects to a later date.

Global major PricewaterhouseCoopers and STUP Consultants Private Limited, Mumbai were short-listed by the technical committee after going through the bids submitted in response to an open tender.

Sources said the PMC for the purpose will now be awarded only after the National Games Organising Committee took a firm decision on the new stadium projects to be constructed as part of the Games. All new projects will be constructed only on annuity basis.

The meeting also decided to conduct a competition for the selection of the logo and mascot for the Games. The competition will be open to the public and prize-money will be awarded for the entries selected in both the categories.

Besides the Sports Minister, the meeting was also attended by the Finance Minister, T.M. Thomas Isaac, the Education Minister, M.A. Baby, the KSSC president, T.P. Dasan, the KOA president, M.M. Abdul Rehman and other senior officials. — Special Correspondent
