Kishen bags under-14 title

MYSORE: Top-seeded S. Kishen, a product of the Raghuveer Tennis Club, Mysore outplayed C. Madan Mohan of Tamil Nadu 6-1, 6-0 to claimed the boys under-14 singles title in the AITA Talent Series tennis tournament at the PET courts, Mandya on Thursday.

Earlier in the semifinals, Kishen defeated Anthony Savio of Bangalore 6-3, 6-1 and C. Madan Mohan shocked the second-seed, M.S. Rakshith 6-0, 6-2.

In the girls under-14 singles semifinals, sixth seeded C.S. Praneetha of Tamil Nadu, playing a consistent game marked by good first serve, stunned the top-seeded Varunya Chandrashekar of Karnataka 6-1, 7-6(2).

In the other semifinal, third-seeded Kavya N. Kumar humbled the sixth seed, Shwetha Samuel 6-3, 6-1.

Boys: Under-14 singles: Final: S. Kishen bt C. Madan Mohan 6-1, 6-0. Semifinals: Kishen bt Anthony Savio 6-3, 6-1; Madan Mohan bt M. S. Rakshith 6-0, 6-2.

Under-14 Doubles: Final: Alok Aradhya & M.S. Rakshith bt Anthony Savio & Rohan Shenoy 6-4, 6-3.

Under-12 singles: Semifinals: C. Vasisht bt Amogh Vardhan 6-0, 6-1; Mohit Reddy bt Sanjay Mohan (TN) 6-3, 6-4.

Girls: Under-14 singles: Semifinals: C.S. Praneetha (TN) bt C. Varunya 6-1, 7-6(2); Kavya N. Kumar bt Shwetha Samuel 6-3, 6-1. Under-12 singles: Prerna Kalwar bt Prajna Nagaraj 6-2, 6-3; C.S. Praneetha bt Shivani Manjunath 6-2, 6-0. — Our Correspondent
