Vijaynagar beats Vivekananda

BANGALORE: Despite a spirited fightback in the third and fourth quarters, Vivekananda Basketball Club (Mandya) lost to holder Vijaynagar (Hospet) 60-55 in the boys’ semifinal league of the State under-13 sub-junior basketball championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Thursday.

Down 17-23 at halftime, the Mandya boys struck a purple path in the third quarter (13-4) and 12-10 in the fourth to take the match into extra time. Asif emerged the top scorer with 18 points with able support from Naveen and Puneeth both chipping in with 12 points.

In the other match, Mangalore BC got the better off of Jayanagar SC 40-37.

Semifinal League: Boys: Mangalore Basketball Club 40 (Vishal 16, Ruthvik 9, Yash Rai 8) bt Jaynagar Sports Club 37 (Sachin 17, Sanjith 7); Vijayanagar, Hospet 60 (Asif 18, Naveen 12, Puneeth 12) bt VBC, Mandya 55 (Vinay 25, Preetham 11).

Vijayanagar, Hospet 44 (Puneeth 16, Asif 11) bt JSC 28 (Sachin 13, Sajith 8); Vivekananda BC, Mandya 66 (Prohith 16, Vinay 12, Mohit 11) bt MBC 64 (Yash Rai 13).

Girls: Sports School, Mandya 31 (Supriya 16, Bhandya 8) bt N. Shetty’s, Mangalore 27 (Pallavi Rao 8, Meghna 6).

Mounts Club 40 (Chahawa 15, Andai 10, Vedha 8) bt Jayanagar Sports Club 13.
