Srither, Jhano lead Indian challenge

KOLKATA: In a world-class field, India’s two top shots, Chinna Raju Srither and Jhano Hansdah, held their own to lead the challenge in the compound bow section of the archery World Cup Stage II at Porec (Croatia) on Wednesday.

Srither, en route to a 24th-position finish with a total of 1,387 points, had a World record score of 360/360 in the 30m distance and yet finished only fifth in that distance.

The next best Indian in overall was Chungda Sherpa with a total of 1,382 which earned him the 32nd-rank. Khuraijam Ratan Singh occupied the 48th spot with 1,364 and the youngest and most inexperienced Arjun Rao was 72nd with a 1,314 points.

Jhano was 14th with a total of 1,382. She was followed by Namita Yadav (1,364, 23rd), Bheigyabati Chanu (1,361, 27th) and Sarikonda Jayalakshmi (1,346, 38th).

The Indian men’s compound team finished with a total of 4,133 points to be eighth overall, while the women’s side was fifth with 4,107 points.
