KOLKATA: India’s Chinna Raju Srither and Jhano Hansdah put up a good show in the compound bow section of the archery World Cup stage II at Porec (Croatia) on Wednesday. Srither, en route to 24th position finish with a total of 1387, had a world record score of 360/360 in the 30m distance and yet finished only fifth in that distance. The next best Indian in overall position was Chungda Sherpa with a total of 1382 which earned him the 32nd rank, Khuraijam Ratan Singh occupied the 48th spot with 1364 and the youngest and most inexperienced Arjun Rao was 72nd with a total of 1314. Jhano finished 14th in the women’s section with a total of 1382. She was followed by Namita Yadav (1364, 23rd), Bheigyabati Chanu (1361, 27th) and Sarikonda Jayalakshmi (1346, 38th). The Indian men’s compound team finished with a total of 4133 points to be eighth overall while the women’s side was fifth with 4107. Recurve team firstThe Indian men’s recurve team, comprising Jayanta Talukdar, Mangal Singh Champia and Rahul Banerjee, stood first in the team qualification with a total of 3,819 points after the FITA round on Tuesday. The picture in the ladies’ side was not as encouraging as in the men’s section. Of the three nominated members of the side, Laishram Bombayla Devi ended 24th overall with a total of 1233; Rimil Buriuly was 26th with 1227 and Dola Banerjee was 40th with 1209. The fourth member, Chekrovolu Swuro finished ahead of the other three at 22nd with a total of 1235 points. The Indian team was ranked ninth with a total of 3669 points. — Special Correspondent
