Indian boys do well

NEW DELHI: Vishal Passi and Abhishek Alla proved too good for Philippines and Myanmar as seventh-seeded India won its first two league matches in group ‘D’ 3-0 in the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 boys’ tennis tournament in Kuching, Malaysia on Wednesday.

Indian will meet second-seeded Korea in the last league match on Thursday.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, and the top four from the zone will make the World Group finals.

The results:

India beat Philippines 3-0 (Vishal Passi bt Calvin Charles Canlas 6-2, 6-3; Abhishek Alla bt Jurence Zosimo Mendoza 6-2, 6-2; Divgijay Singh Naruka & Vishal Passi bt Calvin Charles Canlas & Juan Alfonso Opulencia 6-0, 6-1).

India beat Myanmar 3-0 (Vishal Passi bt Zin Soe Thaw 6-2, 6-0; Abhishek Alla bt Sit Thu Zae Naung 6-2, 6-2; Digvijay Singh Naruka & Vishal Passi bt Sit Thu Zaw Naung & Zin Soe Thaw 6-0, 6-0).
