Lankan under-17 cricket team wins series

BANGALORE: The Sri Lankan under-17 cricket team won the three-match series against Boost XI 2-1.

In the final match at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium here on Wednesday, Boost XI was dismissed for 177 in 49.3 overs and then the Lankan colts overhauled the target scoring 180 for six in just 39.2 overs.

Once again it was Vikas Singh who propped up the Boost XI total with a gritty 59 but got no support whatsoever from the rest.

The scores:

Boost India XI 177 in 49.3 overs (Vikas Singh 59, Kumar Chaturanga four for 29) lost to Sri Lanka XI 180 for six in 39.2 overs (Nuwan Darshana 25, Sandun Weerakam 72 n.o.).

Easy for City Cricketers (1)

An unbeaten 137 by Rajesh and a good knock of 79 not out by Vijay Bharadwaj helped City Cricketers (1) beat Cavaliers CC by eight wickets in a KSCA third division (group I) match here.

K.C. Kishan scored a century for Cavaliers CC.

The scores: Rajajinagar Colts CA 154 in 46.3 overs ( Manikanth 49, Santhosh Kumar three for 48, Giridhar Koppikar three for 20 ) lost to Young Lions Club 158 for two in 29 overs (F.S. Nihal 50 n.o., Gopinath Sandra 37 n.o.).

Cavaliers CC 276 for five in 55 overs (K.C. Kishan 119, Santosh Raj 71, U. Deepak 27, Lenn Stephen four for 91) lost to City Cricketers (1) 277 for two in 43.3 overs ( Rajesh 137 n.o., Hemanth 28, Vijay Bharadwaj 79 n.o.)..

Dooravani Cricketers (1) 218 in 51.3 overs (Darshan 32, Amith 50, Sunil five for 60) lost to Vijaya Cricket Club 220 for four in 37.4 overs (Surendra 132 n.o., H.R. Chelvaraj 48).

Bangalore Occasional 147 in 40 overs (M.K. Srinivas 28, Kaushik 28 n.o., Deepak four for 56, Shivaprakash three for 19) lost to Chamarajpet CC 151 for four in 27.3 overs (K.N. Bharath 75).

Jotin nets winner

BEML (Earth Movers) pegged back the challenge from MEG to register a solitary goal win and inch towards the third spot in the BDFA Super Division league table.

Jotin Singh struck the match winner for BEML in the 21st minute at the football stadium here on Wednesday.

BEML has 27 points from 12 outings (eight wins and three draws) and plays Postal in its last encounter while MEG has logged 21 points from 11 matches (seven wins).

In another clash Postal and ADE shared two goals and points. Dhanashekar gave ADE an early lead with a fifth minute strike but Postal’s consistent goal-getter Srinivasan equalised in the 57th minute.

Postal has 12 points (three wins, three draw) from as many encounters while ADE face relegation with just seven points to show from 12 matches (two wins and a draw).

Meanwhile, the B division league will commence at the football stadium from May 13 with eight teams in fray.

The exhibition match between Super Division champion HAL Sports Club and runner-up KSP scheduled for May 10 has been postponed to May 17.

Tough going for Kishen

The top seed, S. Kishen of Karnataka, staved off a stiff challenge from State-mate Alokh Aradya in the boys’ under-14 singles quarterfinals 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 on the third day of the AITA Talent Series (under 12 & under-14) tennis tournament at the PET courts, Mandya, on Wednesday.

Second-seeded M.S. Rakshith, third seed Anthony Savio, both of Karnataka, and C. Madan Mohan of Tamil Nadu also made the semifinals.

In the boys’ under-12 singles, qualifier Mohit Reddy of Karnataka sailed into the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-4 win over G. Ganapathi of Karnataka.
