Krishna Khaitan badminton tournament

CHENNAI: The Express Shuttle Club’s Krishna Khaitan memorial all-India junior badminton prize money tournament is to be held at the Nehru indoor stadium from June 2 to 7.

This is for boys and girls in the under-19, 16 and 13 age groups. The competition is in singles and doubles in addition to mixed doubles.

The tournament is a selection exercise for picking the Indian junior team for the Asian Championship scheduled in July. Entries along with fees, birth certificate to be sent on or before May 11 to Sanjiv Sachdeva, Organising Secretary, Room No. 76, Nehru stadium.

Sathish shines

R. Sathish’s all-round show was the highlight of Colloquial Willows’ 18-run win over Force I in the final of the Bluestar-SSCA Twenty20 cricket tournament held recently.

The scores: Colloquial Willows 151 in 20 overs (R. Sathish 49, Nanda 32, Murali two for 20, Martin three for 42, Murugan three for 17) bt Force I 133 for four in 20 overs (Martin 26, Rajkumar 39 n.o., R. Ramesh 41, R. Sathish two for 16).

Umesh scalps seven

R. Umesh (seven for 28) starred in Aththis’s mammoth 264-win over Sundar in a first division match of the Tiruvallur DCA league held here recently. In another first division contest, M. Panchapakesan’s seven for 29 enabled Ambattur beat SRF by four wickets.

The scores: First Division: Aththis 233 for nine in 45 overs (B.M. Balu Raj Kumar 87, E. Aswin five for 53) bt Frank Worrell 220 in 43.3 overs (R. Nilesh Subramanian 41, A. Srinivas 59 not out).

SRF 116 in 27.1 overs (M. Panchapakesan seven for 29) lost to Ambattur 119 for six in 28.2 overs.

Aththis 336 for nine in 45 overs (S. Sachin 54, R. Ramesh 73, K. Sampath Kumar four for 48) bt Sundar 72 in 17.1 overs (R. Umesh seven for 28).

SRF 181 in 39.5 overs (R. Srinivas 67, E. Aswin five for 56) bt Frank Worrell 126 in 30.1 overs (S. Venkat Vasan 40, Panna Lal five for 18).

Thiruvallur 186 for nine in 45 overs (Raghunath four for 65) lost to Fine Star CA 187 for five in 39 overs (P. Shijith Chandran 54, A. Benz Raj 70).

Frank Worrell 264 for six in 45 overs (S. Venkat Vasan 85, A. Srinivas 46) lost to Sundar 268 for six in 43 overs (K. Sampath Kumar 96, A. Murali 44).

Lucas TVS – TDCA Trophy: Wheels India 191 in 28.2 overs (D. Magesh 60, Ravi Kumar 46, T. S. R. Venkateswaran four for 52) bt Lucas TVS 143 in 26.5 overs (Karthikai Selvan four for 19).

Alkraft 165 for eight in 30 overs (M. Sakthikvel 70 not out) lost to Schwing Stetters 169 for six in 30 overs.

Gautham hits 55

K. Gautham scored 55 to guide Little Masters CA to a five-wicket quarterfinal win over St. Mary’s CA in the LMCA under-16 knock-out tournament on Tuesday.

The scores (quarterfinals): Khan’s CA 116 for seven in 20 overs (Akash Khadel 28, Mukund three for 28, V. Aravind three for 17) lost to Future Stars CA 119 for eight in 19.3 overs (Hari Krish three for 14).

St. Bede’s Sports Foundation 123 for seven in 20 overs (D.K. Dhilipan 27) bt Kedar CA 110 for eight in 20 overs (Rohit Shankar 28, Aswin Christ four for 14).

St. Mary’s CA 121 for nine in 20 overs (Princely 31, Premnath 33) lost to Little Masters CA 122 for five in 17 overs (K. Gautham 55, S. Viganesh 28).

Good day for MCC

MCC had a good outing as three of its players registered wins in the CAMS open billiards and snooker tournament being held here. Imran Ganj of MCC was stretched to five games before defeating Sherieff 3-2. His clubmates, Varun Kumar and S.A. Saleem won their matches quite easily.
