Run-up to rain: Lightning and thunder dazzle the city skies on Tuesday evening. HYDERABAD: Sudden drizzle, accompanied by thunder and forceful wind, lashed the city and its suburbs on Tuesday evening. Overcast sky and a drop in temperature preceded the rain bringing the much-needed relief to people wallowing in sweltering heat for the past few days. Sheets of water covered portions of some of main thoroughfares in the twin cities. Enthusiastic youngsters were seen getting drenched in rain at some places. The strong gales twisted poles and snapped telephone and power transmission lines in some areas. Power supply was also disrupted in several areas of the city. Technical snagMeanwhile, MMTS services plying on the Secunderabad-Nampally route were affected due to a technical snag on Tuesday evening. The overhead equipment which supplies power to the train engines developed a snag around 8 p.m. following which engines could not get power supply. This affected nearly five MMTS services on the route causing inconvenience to passengers. The overhead equipment is installed at Hussainsagar junction. Officials of the South Central Railway said that a team of technicians were pressed into service to repair the equipment on a war-footing.
