APSRTC achieves 5,000-cr turnover

HYDERABAD: The AP State Road Transport Corporation has achieved the Rs. 5,000 crore-turnover mark in 2008-09, thus making it the only State transport undertaking to cross the milestone.

APSRTC Managing Director V. Dinesh Reddy told a press conference here on Tuesday that in the current fiscal it had posted a profit of over Rs. 100 crore. It was for the third consecutive year that Corporation posted profits. While in 2006-07, RTC posted a profit of Rs. 46 crore, it was Rs. 135 crore in 2007-08.

Explaining how the corporation got out of the red, he said it was possible with optimal utilisation of resources, improving efficiency across several parameters. He thanked all the 1.15 lakh workmen for putting in their best and asked them to continue doing the same.

The parameters included occupancy ratio (up from 69 in 2007-08 to 72 in 2008-09), vehicle utilisation (rise from 352 km last year to 360 km in 2008-09), fleet utilisation (increase from 99.43 to 99.52 per cent) and reducing cost of lubricants and tyres (from 147 paise last year to 142 paise now).
