CPI mulls power sharing with PR
HYDERABAD: As the date for counting of votes draws closer, the State Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to pre-empt any measures by the Congress to take the Praja Rajyam into its fold.
The CPI leaders are sending feelers to the fledgling PR party for ‘power sharing agreement’, including the Chief Minister post, with the Grand Alliance partners in the event of its seats becoming crucial in the formation of the Government. The Grand Alliance is sure to get the required majority, but the partners should also consider the possibility of falling short by a few seats, a senior party leader said.
The parties should not let go any opportunity to prevent the Congress from coming back to power and in the process, give the PR its due share. “What is wrong in being positive to the PR by sending such feelers? We can prevent them from lobbying with the Congress after the results are out,” a senior CPI leader said adding such moves would not have any impact on voters or the fortunes of the political parties.
