Kerala and West Bengal in quarterfinals

Margao: Kerala held Chandigarh to a 1-1 draw to enter into the quarterfinals of the under-21 National football championship for Dutta Ray Trophy at the Raia ground here on Monday.

After the league stage, Kerala topped the cluster VI with seven points, while West Bengal and Assam also booked their quarterfinal berths and joined host Goa, Punjab, Haryana, Meghalaya and Mizoram in the round of eight.

In an exciting match at Curtorim ground, Delhi rallied to hold Assam to a 1-1 draw. With both the teams finishing on seven points each, Assam gets an entry into the next round on the basis of a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, West Bengal, although was held to a goalless draw by Karnataka, edged out the latter from the quarterfinal race by virtue of better goal difference after the teams finished with four points.

Defending champion Goa is placed in Group I along with Mizoram, Assam and West Bengal, while Haryana, Punjab, Meghayala and Kerala are clubbed together in Group II. — PTI
