PATHANAMTHITTA: A two-day dance festival organised by the Chilanka Dance and Music Akademi at Aranmula came to a close on Monday. Sabarimala Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu inaugurated the dance fete on Sunday. The maiden performance of the children who have been learning Bharatanatyam, Mohniyattom and Kuchippudi at the Akademi was the main attraction of the festival on the inaugural day. Acharya Narendrabhushan, Vedic Mission national general secretary, presided over the inaugural function. Kalamandalam Sreedevi Mohan, Akademi director, welcomed the gathering. Prof. P.R. Lalithamma, academic and former Malayalam professor at Parumala Devaswom Board College, delivered the keynote address. G. Sasidharan Nair, founder president of the Federation Of Malayali Associations of America (FOMAA) was the guest of honour. Fact Mohan, renowned Kathakali artiste and executive director of the Akademi and Mini Shyam Mohan, Kozhencherry panchayat president, also spoke. ‘Dasaavatharom’, a dance performance depicting the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, was the major attraction at the concluding ceremony. According to Ms. Mohan, the Akademi is also planning to organise new cultural programmes as part of its initiative to promote native art and culture in Aranmula.
