Double title for Suresh

Udhagamandalam: Coonoor’s P. Suresh clinched a double title in the Ootacamund Gymkhana golf tournaments at the OGC course recently.

Suresh tallied 41 points for the Arokiaswamy Memorial Trophy, which was played on a stableford format (0-16). He followed it up with a 32-point effort for the Bobjee Cup (open).

The results:

Arokiaswamy Memorial Trophy (0-16): Stableford: 1. P. Suresh 41 pts; 2. Gautam Selvaraj 39. 17-30: 1. G.K. Vijayakumar 37 pts (better second half); 2. Rohit Raj 37.

Bobjee Cup: Open stableford: 1. P. Suresh 32 pts; 2. Gautam Selvaraj 27.

Kingfisher Cup (0-16): Against bogey: Nett: 1. D. Lakshminarayanaswamy 37 pts; 2. L.S. Rajendran 36. Gross: 1. Vijay Mehtani 26 pts; 2. P. Suresh 25. 17-30: 1. M.P. George 36 pts; 2. Rohit Raj 34.

Ambal Trophy: Nett: 1. L. S. Rajendran +4; 2. A. Ramamurthy +2. Gross: 1. N. Sounderarajan/Jack Chakola (joint winners) – 8; 2. P. Suresh – 8. 17-30: 1. K. Mantrachalam + 2; 2. N. Ramachandran + 1.

Ranjit CC ‘B’ wins

At Namakkal, Ranjit CC ‘B’ (Tiruchengodu) scored a 67-run win over Kanchana Memorial Cricket Club (Pallipalayam) in the Canara Bank-DCAN first division league at the SPB Colony grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: Ranjit CC ‘B’ (Tiruchengodu) 212 in 39.2 overs (Muthuraj 30, Palvannan 30, Prabhu 32, Prabhakaran three for 17) bt Kanchana Memorial CC (Pallipalayam) 145 in 28.2 overs (Jaya Karthik 40).

Second division: Everest CC (Namakkal) 244 for eight in 40 overs (S. Karthikeyan 64 not out, Parthibhan 38, Dinakaran 38, Meiyanandhan three for 51) bt AVM CC (Pallipalayam) 211 in 37.1 overs (Sivakumar three for 29, Dinakaran three for 37, Mustafa three for 32).
Praveen makes merry

At Salem, P. Praveen Kumar struck a valiant 96 as AVR Cricket Club scored a convincing four-wicket win over Kumar Memorial Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league at the Engineering College ‘A’ grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: TUG CC 177 in 42 overs (Sellamuthu 44, Iniyan three for 39) lost to Tigers XI CC 179 for three in 31 overs (Mahenthiran 55 not out).

Kumar Memorial CC 199 in 45 overs (Shabi 56, V. Saravanan three for 43) lost to AVR CC 200 for six in 36.1 overs (P. Praveen Kumar 96, M. Chinnathambi three for 30).

Second division: Sunil CC w/o. Kannan MCC; Salvo CC 117 in 45 overs (Rajkumar 40, K.P. Suresh Kumar three for 19, T. Kesavan three for 22) lost to SSP RCC 119 for three in 24.4 overs (T. Kannan 51 not out).
