WELCOME SHOWERS: Streaks of lightning in Visakhapatnam city which saw pre-monsoon thundershowers in the wee hours on Monday. HYDERABAD: Telangana region continued to be in the grip of a severe heat wave on Monday, with Khammam temperature shooting up to 50 degree Celsius. Parts of Coastal Andhra received light rain. Yellandu, one of the coal mining areas of the Singareni Collieries in Khammam district, recorded the highest day temperature of 50 degrees C, according to district Collector V. Usharani. The other high day temperature of 45 degree C was recorded by Adilabad, Medak and Rentachintala. The State Met Office warned of no let-up in the heat wave conditions in Telangana for two more days. In Coastal Andhra, gales accompanied by thundershowers and lightning snapped power and telephone lines. As a result, some hoardings and cut-outs collapsed. Day temperatures fell slightly in some districts. Vizianagaram recorded a rainfall of two cm and Bobbili, Salur and Cumbum each one cm.
