FOR SAFETY: Police personnel posted near the PDK office at Royapettah in Chennai. CHENNAI: Five functionaries of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK), including two women, were arrested in Royapettah on Sunday morning on charges of ransacking a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) campaign office in the area and attacking police. Two police personnel and a few residents including a small boy was injured in the incidents. Speaking to The Hindu, A.G. Mourya, DCP, Mylapore, said that the incident was sparked off on Saturday after news about the Coimbatore Army vehicle attack by PDK activists spread. “On Saturday night, armed PDK cadres came to the DMK campaign office on V.M. Street in Royapettah and attacked party workers inside. The group also damaged furniture, a television set and other items in the office,” Mr. Mourya added. Four persons were injured in the attack. Following a complaint lodged by a victim Raj Kumar, the Ice House police registered cases against PDK cadres under various sections including section 148 (Armed rioting) and section 448 (Punishment for house-trespass). One person identified as Tamil Arasu (25) was arrested on last night but the others were absconding.
