Janani upsets Bharathi

TIRUVARUR: J. Janani of Tiruvallur upset top seed R. Bharathi of Chennai in the third round of the State FIDE-rated chess championship for women at Tiruthuraipoondi on Sunday.

Easy for Nilgiris

Tiruvallur blanked Nilgiris 3-0 to book a place in the semifinals of the sub-junior State football championship here on Sunday. Vijayakumar (2) and Rakshan (1) were the scorers.

In the other quarterfinal, Madurai edged Tirunelveli 2-1. Anthony Irudayaraj and Vignesh netted for the winner, while Apollo scored for Tirunelveli.
