CHENNAI: The Ransa Sports Club has started a 20-day intensive coaching camp meant for middle-level and advanced table tennis players at the Club premises in R.A. Puram and also Maharishi Vidya Mandir (Chetput) and this will go on till May 19. State Coach V.M. Ravi Venkatesh will supervise the camp at the two venues with assistance from six other qualified coaches. Briefing newsmen on Friday, Ravi Venkatesh said apart from rigorous practice and fitness training the camp will also concentrate on helping the trainees develop good temperament and mental toughness. In this context, he said the trainees would be initiated to yoga by Radha Sridhar from Yogakshemam. He said four tournaments would be conducted during the course of the camp with prizes worth Rs. 40,000. In addition, as an incentive and annual practice, players who had represented the State last year would be given gold rings (this year seven would be beneficiaries). Handsome concessions (for travelling by train and for lodging) for players taking part in all-India tournaments and tournaments within the State were other benefits that players would enjoy, he said. Ravi Venkatesh underlined the support from sponsors in particular, professional couriers, Hatsun Agro Product, Marg, Thangamaligai, TTK, Arun Excello, Matexnet, Build Craft, SBI, Abhirami Megamall and Chennai Petroleum. — Special Correspondent
