PR flays government

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Senior leader of Praja Rajyam K. Vidyadhar Rao on Saturday criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for chilling out at Shimla while farmers in the State were suffering from power crunch at the peak of agricultural season.

At a press conference here, he said that it was akin to Nero playing the fiddle while Rome was on fire. Crops were drying up and farmers were suffering without a minimum support price for most of the produce. While prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing, the government was still not taking any corrective measures, he said.

Mr. Rao said that post-elections, it was as if the government was on a holiday. In such a situation, the State would be better off under the President’s rule or a regime of political parties put together.
