Boost Cup awards presented

Bangalore: Encouragement was in abundance for a bunch of under-16 cricketers from across the nation. These youngsters were honoured at the Chinnaswamy Stadium premises here on Friday night.

The Boost Cup ‘Ratna’ awards were given to five players and a combined 15-member Boost team, which will play against a Sri Lankan under-17 team in a set of three limited overs matches here from May 4, was also announced.

Legends B.S. Chandrashekar and Syed Kirmani along with Sunil Joshi, Lalchand Rajput and Sadanand Vishwanath besides the KSCA officials, graced the function.

Kirmani’s request

Kirmani urged the awardees to adhere to the ‘spirit of the game’ and requested them to refrain from sledging and personal abuse. “This is a gentleman’s game and it was while we were playing and I hope you youngsters will revive that spirit,” Kirmani said.

Procam International Director P.N. Sankaran, who handled the logistics of the Boost Cup and the subsequent coaching camp, thanked the KSCA and sponsors Glaxo Smithkline for their support. The special awardees got a trophy and a cheque for Rs. 20,000 each.

The awardees: Sandeep Raj Kaushik (Vidya Jain Public School, Delhi); Avinash Gaangay (Vidya Jain Public School, Delhi); Nitesh Rana (Vidya Jain Public School, Delhi); Kumar Rajnish (Greater Triveni Public School, Jharkand) and Puneet Tripathi (Rizvi Springfield, Mumbai).

The Boost team: Sandeep Raj Kaushik (captain), Amit Beru, Avinash Gaangay, Nitesh Rana, Vikas Singh Hathwala, Aman Raj, R. Ananth, Jitinder Scidanandh, Rohan Yadav, Surya Teja, Ajat Shatru Singh, Kumar Rajnish, Kumar Ranjan Singh, Puneet Tripathi and Manish Gupta. Coach: Sanjay Bharadwaj.
