BANGALORE: Dharmaraja Union is the new ‘A’ Division football league champion. Going into Saturday’s match against DYSH, needing a win, Dharmaraja Union achieved just that through a solitary goal by Charan at the Football Stadium here on Saturday. Dharmaraja Union finished with 25 points while ISRO, leader for most of the league finished second best with 23 points. Both the teams earned a promotion to the super division next season. In the super division league, BEL and BEML registered important victories to remain in the top six of the table. Both came into the league with expectations of finishing amongst the top and inched towards achieving that goal with comprehensive wins over LRDE and ASC, respectively. Captain Jenny Freddy gave BEL the lead in the 53rd minute and doubled it with a 70th minute cushion before Suman rounded off the tally with an injury time goal to give BEL a 3-0 margin over LRDE. BEL is now placed in the middle rungs with 13 points from 11 matches (three wins, four draw) while LRDE bring up the rear with just six points to show from 11 matches. BEML, tipped to give front runner HAL a run scored a 4-1 win over ASC and has 24 points also from 11 outings. Jotin Singh (third min.), Sanath Kumar (25th min.) and Samuel Jackson (36th and 66th mins.) scored for the Earth Movers while A. Ramesh pulled one back for ASC in the 11th minute. ASC has tallied 19 points from 11 matches (six wins and a draw).
