MUMBAI: Atul Dahale (rating 2116) matched wits with Grandmaster Alexander Fominyh (2485) before both agreed for a draw on the 76th move in the 2nd Mayor’s Cup International Open chess tournament second round encounter. The second day saw engrossing contests, Grandmasters Dibyendu Barua and Niaz Murshed forced to share points with lower-ranked players at the Goregaon Sports Club. Barua split a point after 48 moves with Shalmali Gagare, Murshed drew with Dilip Das. Dahale, from Parbhani district in Maharashtra, is familiar with Fominyh’s game. He had lost to the Russian GM five years ago at the Saharanpur International. “This time I was mentally better prepared, again playing my first match against him.
