CATCHING THE EYE: Suresh Raina’s brilliant knock set up Chennai Super Kings’ win.

Centurion: Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne blamed poor bowling in the ‘death overs’ for his team’s first defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, here.

The defending champion, which had won all the encounters against the Chennai team in the first IPL, lost by 38 runs on Thursday.

Chennai scored 56 runs in the last four overs to reach 164 for five and then bowled out Royals for 128 with L. Balaji picking up four wickets.

“I thought they would score around 130 but the last four overs were disappointing. Unfortunately we played ordinary in six-seven overs.

“Bowling in the last four overs and batting in the first six-seven overs was really bad,” Warne said after the match.

Dhoni satisfied

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was satisfied to beat Rajasthan for the first time in the T20 event.

“We had lost three games to them and of course it’s nice to beat them. I think our bowling was good, it was on the mark. (Albie) Morkel bowled well with the new ball,” he said.

“Balaji, Tyagi, Muralitharan....everyone contributed and not to take anything away from Suresh. He was superb,” Dhoni added.

The left-handed Raina, adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant effort, said he was looking forward to carrying on with the good form in the rest of the tournament.

“I wanted to play till the end when I got going. And I did that. Badrinath also played well and we want to continue it in the remaining matches,” he said.

Good platform

Raina also said that IPL was a good platform for youngsters to prepare for T20 World Cup.

“The World Cup is coming up and Champions Trophy will also be played in South Africa. IPL is a good platform for the youngsters to learn and play hard cricket whenever they get a chance,” he said. — PTI
