Manjeri: Kannur defeated Kottayam 49-25 to win the girls’ title in the State junior basketball championships at the GBHSS ground here on Friday. Neenumol scripted Kannur’s win by scoring 23 points, while Sona Shaji (15) did the bulk of the scoring for Kottayam. Thrissur took the third spot with a narrow 59-56 win over Ernakulam. In the boys’ category, Kannur edged out Pathanamthitta 66-64 to finish third. The results: Boys: For third place: Kannur 66 (Manu M. Philip 20, Ajith 12) bt Pathanamthitta 64 (Siddique 23, Nithin Paul 12). Girls: Final: Kannur 49 (Neenumol 23) bt Kottayam 25 (Sona Shaji 15). SBT in last fourState Bank of Travancore (Thiruvananthapuram) and Cordiant (Ernakulam) posted comfortable wins and entered the semifinals of the K.H. Syed Ali Memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at the Fort Ground in Palakkad on Friday. SBT crushed host Galaxy CC by nine wickets, while Cordiant defeated Muthoot ECC by five wickets. The scores: Galaxy CC (Palakkad) 101 for seven in 30 overs (Venu 30) lost to SBT (Thiruvananthapuram) 102 for one in 20.2 overs (Vinan G. Nair 55 n.o.). Muthoot ECC (Ernakulam) 122 for nine in 30 overs (Unnikrishnan 38, Manu Krishnan four for 38) lost to Cordiant (Ernakulam) 123 for five in 18.5 overs (Rajilal 29). Canara Bank posts winCanara Bank defeated Fighters CC by six wickets in the Thiruvananthapuram ‘D’ division cricket league at the Agriculture College ground on Friday.
