Importance of sport

Commending the sportsmen and women as also the institutions that shaped them into achievers in various disciplines, K. Ganesan, principal secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, underlined the essence of sports in the life of a person, and urged institutions to ensure the state-of-the-art infrastructure in all disciplines for the practitioners to reach perfection.

Identifying himself as a passionate votary who enjoyed playing and observing sport, Mr. Ganesan pointed out sport as a symbol of “national pride,” and appealed to educational institutions to act as a catalyst in the promotion of it.

He hailed the effort behind making the Tamil Nadu Sports University a reality as unique and worthy of emulation by other states.

Mr. Ganesan conceded that the appeal to enhance sports quota in admission had merit and should be pursued. He welcomed the idea of making sport as a mandatory subject.
